OWNER + FOUNDER, LINDSY FAGAN
Infertility is not a unique experience - if you haven't dealt with it personally, you probably know at least one person that has. Like so many others, we discovered that getting pregnant wasn't going to be as natural (or inexpensive) as one might think. In the beginning of our journey, I was struggling to not let myself become completely consumed by everything that we were facing and knew that I needed something non-fertility related to focus my energy on - along came chip+chisel. I jumped in head first, learning all of the ins and outs of jewelry making - and with packages of supplies showing up on our doorstep almost daily, my husband was just hoping that I would make enough to cover the cost of everything! I had no idea what I wanted to focus on or what my real style was, but I quickly learned that I was extremely passionate about creating personalized pieces and it just so happened that a large portion of the designs I was creating were for new moms. Some might think that creating pieces for those lucky enough to conceive and bring a little one into their lives might be difficult considering our circumstances, but it was actually quite the opposite. When I look back, I think it helped me stay focused, knowing that one day I might be creating a new mommy design for myself (and yes, I have a TON now!). I am so grateful for each customer that chose and continues to choose chip+chisel for their handcrafted jewelry needs - you inspire and encourage me more than you can imagine.
Here we are, over 10 years later, and we never imagined c+c would be what it is today, let alone the labor of love that it's turned into! It's beyond humbling that through our simple grass roots endeavor, we now have beautiful twin girls and the opportunity to give back to others who struggle with the pain of infertility. To think I started this business in my dining room with my mom helping to fill orders using an ironing board as a packaging station!
As time goes on, it's important to me that chip+chisel never loses that personal element that I hope always sets us apart. I didn't initially share our story or even the true meaning behind why c+c exists, but now I realize the impact that our journey has had on us and it has truly fueled our desire to speak candidly about our struggle in hopes that we can reach other families dealing with the heartbreak of infertility, miscarriage and beyond. Although I'll always be deeply passionate about creating personalized jewelry, what excites me the most is the opportunity to be a part of someone else's story - even if it's just to offer a beautiful keepsake in the form of handcrafted jewelry. Our hope for c+c is that it would be a revolving door of giving.
Please feel free to reach out about anything! I would love to hear from you.
